Description: There is an increasing trend towards realigning supply chains into value networks, with the expectation of higher strategic and competitive benefits from such networks. A supplier value network is defined as a network of relationships among organizations for the purpose of carrying out activities across the supply and distribution network. In order to realize the value or benefits of such networks, they need to be properly managed. Managing supplier value networks pose a significant challenge given the multitude and complexity or inter-organizational relationships and different motivations that organizations in the network have.
This research project therefore intends to have a better understanding of the different aspects of value network management, and ways of appropriating value from such networks. The aim is to understand the role of information sharing and access to relevant information in the effective management of supplier value networks, and how modern technologies such as the use of RFID in supply chains and networks for more effective management strategies. The research will fall under the broad domains of Information Systems Management, Organizational and Inter-organizational Strategy, and Supply Chain Management.
